Harold SELIM, 46, of rural Shannon City remained in serious condition in intensive care at Iowa Methodist Hospital in
Des Moines late Tuesday after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 169 and Highway 259 west of
Tingley at a little after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. A farm truck loaded with corn and driven by Joe DUKES, 42,
of Ellston collided with the pickup pulling a trailer load of hogs driven by SELIM. The DUKES truck entered the
intersection from the east from Highway 259 after the truck brakes failed and the SELIM vehicle, traveling south
on Highway 169, hit the DUKES truck. The SELIM pickup caught fire following the accident and the trailer load of
hogs turned over on its top.
A new school board member was named by the Grand Valley Community school board at a special meeting held Wednesday,
March 15. Dennis CAMPBELL was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Tom GILES.

month. Work on the kitchen, bathrooms, lighting, concrete and parking lot are still to be finished. The glass
blocks have arrived and will be set soon as well.
