Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr
One hundred and sixty-five citizens of Ringgold county are over 80 years of age or older, according to a survey
conducted by Milt HENDERSON, centennial publicity director. Mrs. Mary STEWART of Redding, who observed her 100th
birthday anniversary on January 4, 1955, is Ringgold county's oldest citizen. Next in line are A. B. KEPLINGER of Maloy
and Will KLING of Mount Ayr, both of whom are 97 years old. Seventeen citizens over 90 years of age are listed in the
survey. Mrs. Jim DENHART, 93, of Mount Ayr, holds the title as the longest continuous resident of the county. W. E.
DRAKE, 91, of Liberty township, ranks second. Both are native born.
John D. WARIN of Benton township was elected president of the new Ringgold County Agricultural Extension Council at the
organization meeting held Friday in Mount Ayr. Other officers elected include E. M. WATSON of Diagonal, vice-president;
Mrs. Cliff NICHOLS of Middle Fork township, secretary; and Mrs. Roy COOPER of Monroe township, treasurer.
The familiary Coca-Cola bottle now has a "big brother." New, king-size bottle of the famed soft drink will go on sale
today in ffodand beverage stores here, Roy R. BLAZEK, manager of the Creston Bottling Co., local bottlers of Coca-Cola,
revealed yesterday. "The Mount Ayr area isone of the first sections of the country to have the new bottle," Mr. BLAZEK
said. "This is the first change Coca-Cola has made in its package in 40 years."
Mrs. Chas. BENNETT has submitted an article, concerning her son, Warren, who is employed in Bonners Ferry, ID and
which was taken from the newspaper in the city. The item read as follows: "Mrs. Elsie Simpson of Naples is about convinced
that there are a good many honest people in the world, especially in the forest service. "Last Saturday Mrs. Simpson lost
her handbag containing, among other items, $100 in cash. She reported the loss to the sheriff's office, where immediate
efforts to locate the purse were to no avail. "Convinced that the purse and the money were lost beyond retrieval, she returned
to her home. A short time later two young men, summer employees of the forest service here, appeared with the purse, contents
intact, of course. "The young men are Francis Adams of Utah and Warren BENNETT from Iowa, both of whom arrived here only
last week to go to work for the forest service. "Needless to say, Mrs. Simpson thinks very highly of young men who
work for the forest service. Forest service officials here indicated that they, too, are well pleased with their men.
And the young men should -- and probably do -- feel that they were able to perform an act of honesty and integrity.
So everybody should be happy."
