REDDING - McClanahan & Scott have the first electric lamp in Redding.
The great popularity voting contest, which had been on for the past six months and in which prizes aggregating in the
value [of] $400 were given at Freeland & carr's store, came to a close Wednesday evening. Florence GOINS won the
grand prize, a beautiful $200 grafonla [a graphophone made by Columbia Graphophone Company, styled like a Victrola];
Madge SPENCER took second prize, a Colonial Queen sewing machine; the two gold watches were won by Fern GUTHRIE and
Lola JOHNSTON; and the silver toilet set was won by Ona RUSH. Each of the contestants who failed to win one of the
prizes was given a set of silverware.
The reports of the assessor of Ringgold Count show that last yeare there were produced in the county, 1,160,421 dozen
eggs. At about the average price paid, the egg cross was worth $232,084.20. The total number of chickens in the county,
as reported by the assessors, was 418,319.
