Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, January 23, 1958

by Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Three break-ins which occurred early Saturday morning in Kellerton are being investigated by sheriff Warren A. DRAKE and members of the Iowa State Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Over $30 in cash was taken from Glenn ROBINSON'S service station, entrance to which was gained by prying open the front door. The thieves entered the tavern, operated by Clark KINNEY, by breaking out a glass in a rear door. Approximately $35 in cash was stolen. At White's TV store only a small amount of silver was missing.

Mr. Robert JOHNSTON, 39 years of age, and 11-year-old twin daughters of Mount Ayr and Mrs. Glennie BOLTON, 59, of Tingley, were injured Friday afternoon in a two-car accident. The accident happened about 5 p.m. at the Ringgold-Union county line 13 miles north of Mount Ayr on Highway 169. Mrs. JOHNSTON and daughters, Annie and Susie, were returning to Mount Ayr from Creston and Mrs. BOLTON, driving a 1949 Ford, was headed north. At the county line intersection Mrs. BOLTON started to turn west onto the Shannon City road in the path of the JOHNSTON car and Mrs. JOHNSTON was unable to avoid the collision.

Charles SKINNER, manager of the Hy-Vee Food Store in Mount Ayr the past two years, will be transferred to Fort Madison effective on or about Mach 1, where he will manage the new Hy-Vee supermarket. He has been identified with the local store for 10 years. Mr. SKINNER will be succeeded by Joe LINN, single, manager of the Hy-Vee store at Corning.

The 160-acre farm, owned by Milton P. JAMES and Buena E. JAMES, was sold Friday at public auction to Guy BAGLEY of Kellerton. Mr. BAGLEY, who resided on an 180-acre farm, four miles southeast of Kellerton in Decatur county, sold his farm recently to LeRoy TRIMBLE of Kellerton.

Cyril D. GREENE, employee of the local county engineer's office, is included among the 87 employees of the Iowa State Highway Commission and county engineers officers who are attending the winter quarter as students in the surveyors school at Iowa State college, Ames.
