E. W. BROOKS, of Dayton, visited Friday afternoon in Mount Ayr in the interest of organizing a Mount Ayr bank. He has signed a contract with
the Mount Ayr Commercial Club for the ensuing year and will give instruction to two bands - The Mount Ayr band, which is to give concerts
this summer, and a junior band, which will be organized. In addition to his band work, Mr. BROOKS conducts a cigar factory which he will
move to Mount Ayr.
The board of supervisors has hired Alfred LEWIS to serve as steward of the county farm at a salary of $100 per month. Mr. LEWIS has served
as steward for a number of years and his work has been satisfactory.
V. G. CROPPER recently opened a broom factory at Delphos and will sell brooms to the trade.
The Village Improvement Socity has elected the following officers: President, Mrs. R. S. BEALL; vice-president, Mrs. Samuel BAILEY;
secretary, Mrs. L. W. LAUGHLIN; and treasurer, Margaret GIBBONEY. ELected as chairman of the varios committees are Mrs. Bert TEALE, park;
Mrs. G. A. TENNANT, sanitation; and Maude SPENCE, library board.
C. O. FULLER, formerly of the firm of Haldeman & Fuller, has decided to locate to Bedford where he has been assisting his father in
his restuarant and will move there soon.
The library board is planning to add to the reference facilities of the library by establishing a clipping bureau among its friends and
patrons. You are asked to make clippings from papers and weekly magazines and all periodicals that are not preserved for binding, upon
subjects that ae suitable for debate and literary discussion.
The Alcott Literary Society of the Mount Ayr High School gave its second monthly program last Wednesday evening. The play, "After the
Game" was presented and those who took part were Grace DARROW, Lucy KIDNEY, Gladys THOMPSON, Belle STRANAHAN, Pauline STEPHENSON, Marie
GOODWIN, Lo [Lou?] THOMPSON, Deva BUTLER Minnie ROBINSON and Sue TIMBY.
KELLERTON - O. B. KLATTENBURG has secured the Ford agency for the Kellerton territory. Mr. KLATTENBURG comes from Osceola where he has been
engaged in the hardware and implement business. Glen JOHNSON has sold the delivery wagon, which he started a few weeks ago, to Sidney BENEWAY.
G. W. MARTS took possession Monday of the meat market and grocery store on the west side, which he bought of Charles MOORE. At the country
home of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. ALLEN on February 24, occurred the wedding of their daughter, Verna D. ALLEN and Forest D. SMITH. A large number of
friends was present to witness the ceremony, which was performed by Rev. HENDERSON, of Ellston. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. T.
SMITH and a propserous young farmer. These young people will go to housekeeping on a farm north of town, which they have rented.
HICKORY GROVE - George COLE went Saturday to Bridgewater, where he will clerk in a store.
