Jerry NOBLE, son of Roland and Joan NOBLE of Mount Ayr,has advanced to the semi-finals of the Talent Sprouts show
at the Iowa State Fair. NOBLE presented a drum solo last Thursday and will compete again today.
An open house for the display of four, one bedroom apartments for senior citizens in Diagonal will be held August 26.
The apartments are located three blocks north of the Diagonal school.
Firemen were called to two blazes this week. Fire in a fuse box on August 6 at the Vernon McGAHUEY farm southest of
Mount Ayr caused approximately $100 in damages. On August 7 firemen were sent by a passerby to the Bob SALTZMAN farm
four miles northeast of Mount Ayr to put out a grass fire.
Larry FREIHAGE, a 36-year-old farmer from near Ellston had two fingers cut off in a farm accident August 10. FREIHAGE
was working with his father, Grant FREIHAGE, on his farm near Arispe when his hand became caught in a baler. He was
taken first to Greater Community Hospital in Creston and then transferred to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines
where he underwent a five and one-half hour surgery to repair the damage. One finger was sewed back on and indications
are it will be saved. He will be in a partial cast for six weeks.
Several Ringgold county youth received honors recently in the FFA division of the Iowa State Fair. Kevin TRIGGS'
Duroc gilt topped the field in the FFA class of breeding swine, his Spot gilt was awarded reserved champion, his Spot boar
received reserve champion and his Spot breeding herd won reserve champion. Gary WEEDA received champion with his
Semmental heifer in the FFA heifer division. Tom KRAMER received top herdsmanship honors in the FFA market lamb
competition. Grand Valley's FFA livestock judging team, which consisted of Bryan PAYTON, Rodney DOSER and Ed HEWLETT,
received a silver rating in competition.
Sheryl HENRY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John G. HENRY of Mount Ayr, and Fred GRAMM, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond GRAMM of
Stratton, CO, were married June 9, 1979 in the Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen, CO. The couple will make
their home in Lakewood, CO.
