Joe McNEILL, head football coach of the Mount Ayr Community high school and the Register and Tribune's coach of the year in 1963, is one of four high school grid coaches invited to participate in a football clinic to be held May 1 and 2 at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City. Coach McNEILL will appear on the Saturday morning program and discuss his overall football program in Mount Ayr.

Supt. C. Arthur HANSEN returned Tuesday afternoon from Kansas City, MO where since Sunday he had attended a Midwest Regional Drive-In Conference held in Hotel President. Approximately 260 school administrators from North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa shared ideas during the conference.

The Lutheran Mission, Missouri Synod, of Mount Ayr, held its ground breaking ceremony on April 19 on the lot behind the Dairy Sweet just off of Highway 2. Lay assistant James DITTMAN, Mrs. DITTMAN, Diane and Billy will reside in a new house, which will include a chapel for the mission. Tentative plans are to have the chapel completed about August 1, at which time the project will be dedicated.

Susan HENDERSON of Mount Ayr and David LYNCH of Maloy remain in contention as candidates for state 4-H offices, following interviews held Tuesday of last week in Creston. Susan and David are among four selected from 17 4-Hers from nine south central Iowa counties who met with the interviewing committee.

The property of the late Guy E. POLLEY, located at 706 W. Columbus Street, was sold Saturday at public auction to Wayne JOHNSON of Mount Ayr. The consideration was $3,550.

Top grades which put them in the cream of the academic crop at the State University of Iowa, Iowas City, have won membrships in two freshman honor societies for two students of this area -- Jane KINNE of Tingley and Roger MAHARRY of Clearfield.

Rick DEFENBAUGH, a senior in the Mount Ayr Community high school and one of the finest athletes ever produced by the local schools, was last week named "Prep of the Week," by Brad Wilson, sports writer for The Des Moines Register. An article written by Mr. Wilson for the April 15 issue of the Register praised DEFENBAUGH as a "master of all trades: in the field of athletics. Other local high school trackmen given recognition by Mr. Wilson were Gene RICKER, Don GEPNER, Milt STONE and Duane MILLER.

Raymond E. DOSER, son of the Emery DOSERS of Kellerton and a member of the Grand Valley chapter of Future Farmers of America, was awarded the Iowa Farmer Degree during the 36th annual F.F.A. Leadership Conference held Friday and Saturday in Des Moines. DOSER, the first member of the four-year-old chapter, and 206 other members of the organization received the coveted degree during a ceremony held Friday morning.
