Scott GILES of Mount Ayr was one of the officials at the state tournament this year, the first time in 30 years that
a Ringgold county official has worked at a girls state contest game - as far as many longtime residents can remember.
Back in 1971 Bill SMITH of Mount Ayr officiated a state tournament game for the last Ringgold county representation
among officials. He had also worked games in 1968 and 1969. GILES officiated with his partner, Brad BAKER of Afton,
for the game between Washington and MOC Floyd Valley in the class 3A portion of the tournament.
The official census count for Beaconsfield may be 11, making it officially the smallest incorporated town in Iowa, but
residents there say that's a mistake. They can count 24 people living in the town limits. By the time you add up the
list of the PETTINGILLS, KIRKPATRICKS, McALEXANDERS, MAYS, O'DELLS, WIONS, HOAGS, KELLERS, DAVISES, JONES and
MATLAGES, there are 13 more people than those that show up in the official count.
