Six new stained glass windows have been installed at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr this week by Chris
Dieter of Bovard Studio, Inc., in Fairfield.
Police chief Todd JACKSON presented his resignation to the city at the council's regular meeting Monday night. He
plans to accept a position with the Creston fire department. JACKSON will continue to work for the city until Wednesday,
July 28, he told the council. The council accepted the resignation, meaning that the city now only has part-time employee
Tracy ANDERSON to help with police duties.
A Mount Ayr resident was taken by helicopter ambulance to Des Moines for treatment following a motorcycle accident with
a cow in the road on Highway 169 south of Mount Ayr Wednesday, July 14. Kenneth CAMPBELL, 34, of Mount Ayr, was in
serious condition at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. CAMPBELL was southbound at 10:08 p.m., about one-eighth mile south of the
intersection with Highway 2, when his 1980 Suzuki motorcycle hit a cow in the road. The cow was owned by Junior KLEJCH of
Mount Ayr.
Marcia A. LETT, 50, of Creston, died in an incident which occurred at Rising Sun Cemetery in Lincoln township, located in
northwestern Ringgold county. Ringgold county sheriff Bob BENNETT says the death was apparently a suicide. A group of
farmers touring farms discovered LETT'S vehicle and investigated, finding LETT, who was transported by ambulance to
Ringgold County Hospital. Attempts to resucitate LETT were unsuccessful and she died from an apparent drug overdose.
An animal-shaped potato was found in the garden of Bud and Irene AYRES of Mount Ayr when they were digging up new potatoes
from their garden recently.
The nephew of Mount Ayr residents was among the "Wandering Wheels" bicycle riding group which came through RInggold county
on Highway 2 early this week. Jacob FISHER of Kokomo, IN, nephew of Guy and Cindy FISHER of Mount Ayr, was on of the 50
riders who came through the area on the trip. The ride began in Seattle, WA and will finish in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
A going away tribute to recognize 15 years of care at the Ringgold County Recovery Center will be held at Ringgold County
Hospital Sunday, Aug. 1 from 1 to 5 p.m.
