A check was received for a community betterment project and several other items discussed when the Tingley town
council held its recent December meeting. Florence SHIELDS presented the town with a check in memory of her late
husband, Marvin. The check will be used toward the new air condidtioner purchased for the Tingley Community Building
this fall.
Mark THORNTON, a brother to former Mount Ayr residents and business owners, Kelly THORNTON and Rob THORNTON, is
making a name for himself in the country music world. THORNTON recently has arranged music and played on two albums --
The Nashville Super Pickers Picking On Christmas and the Nashville Super Pickers Picking on the Eagles. Both records
were released by CMH Records, Los Angeles. THORNTON is also beginning on a record of music he has written. He has
had his base in Nashville, TN the past three yeras. he has played in Iowa on tours of the Nashville Country Music
Revue. Besides being a professional guitar player, THORNTON has promoted several country music groups, been a disc
jockey in Los Angeles and worked in recording and music publishing.
A burglary of a Ringgold county home in which more than $7,000 in guns and other items were stolen is being investigated
by the Ringgold County Sheriff's office. The home of Jack KATZ north of Diagonal in Jefferson township was borken into on
Dec. 6, according to the report. The sheriff's office is investigating the theft of a long list of firearms and other
items taken in the burglary.
