Bill LEEPER and Amy AKERS were crowned as the royalty for the Grand Valley community homecoming festivities Friday
night. The Tigerettes won their ball game over Mormon Trail 83-47 while the Tigers dropped an 84-47 contest. LEEPER is
the son of Dave and Doris LEEPER of Kellerton while AKRS is the daughter of Monte and Carol AKERS of Kellerton. Other
candidates for the royalty included king candidates Mike VANDERFLUGHT, Jeff HEWLETT and Scott MUNYON, and the
queen candidates Teresa GAGE, Gina BROWN and Angie GODDEN.
If you happen to be watching the Aloha Bowl on Christmas Day, it's likely you'll see a familiar face smiling back at
you during the pre-game and half-time entertainment. Mount Ayr Community high school senior Jamie JONES will be one
of the 335 select participants that will make up the National Cheerleading Association's Superstar Dance Team and
Spiritleaders at the Eagle Aloha Bowl on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. JONES received this prestigious honor at a drill
team camp in Ames earlier this July.
Ringgold county will have a county engineer as of January 1, 1989. It will involve a sharing arrangement with Decatur
county Vauhgn CLARK. Decatur county engineer for the last 21 years, signed a contract last Tuesday to become the
Ringgold-Decatur county engineer.
Some Mount Ayr men took top honors in the November American Legin district bowling tournament in Oskaloosa. The locals
bowled November 3. A team of Sam TAYLOR, Jake DAILEY, Laurance BISHOP and Don BEAR placed third. DAILEY was first in singles.
TAYLOR was third and BRAND, eighth. In doubles, TAYLOR and DAILEY were first and BRAND and a partner from Oskaloosa were
third. TAYLOR was first in all events and DAILEY ninth.
