At a special school election held Tuesday, voters overwhelmingly favored the establishment of the proposed
Grand Valley Community School District in Decatur and Ringgold counties. The official tabulation was 755 in favor
and 195 against. The establishment of the new district will become effective July 1, 1958.
Sixteen rural schools in Ringgold county, five less than last year, and possibly two others, will open next Monday.
Teachers are Gladys BENNETT, Magaret SOBOTKA, Mrs. Neoma HUSS, Mrs. Ruth LORIMOR, Mrs. Bertha JEZEK, Mrs. Mary DRAKE,
Mrs. Dorothy SICKELS, Mrs. Eleanor MILLER, Mrs. Elnora FINLEY, Mrs. Vera DAUGHTON, Mrs. Mildred CANNON, Mrs. Velma
KIMBALL, Mrs. Nola LANDPHAIR, Mrs. Lois BOOTH, Mrs. Evelyn WARRICK and Mrs. Corrine MURRAY.
Second place winners in the summer Little League program recently concluded were the Indians, coached by Rupert
JOHNSTON and Sam NEWTON. Members of the team were Kenneth MARKLEY, Steve ADAMS, Gary DOOLEY, Billy WILEY, Steve
JOHNSTON, John MAIN, Phil WEBB, Allyn MONAGHAN, Richard PALMER, Dan SKINNER, Donnie GEPNER, Stanley BRYAN, Scott
CLEMENS, Paul LONG, Billy THOMPSON and Ronnie LANDPHAIR.
Redding - Helen OLNEY will go the last of August to Whittier, Calif., where she has employmemt as a
teacher in the public schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. A. HETZEL welcomed two granddaughters into their family circle within three days last week.
On August 14, their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald YOUNGKIN, of Urbana, Ill., announced the arrival
of Deborah Lynn. In the home of another son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin NEWTON, of Newton, previously
occupied by only boys, was born a daugher, Kay Elizabeth, on Aug. 16.
