RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 22, 1940

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

James RICHMOND has been elected janitor of the Mount Ayr schoolhouse to succeed Emlin SMITH, who was recently appointed fireman-laborer at the new post office building. His salary was set at $75 per month. Mr. RICHMOND will be assisted by Ernest RICHARDS, who is already serving in that capacity.

Paul JOHNSTON has tendered his resignation as a member of the Mount Ayr school faculty to accept a position in the Maquoketa schools. Theron McCARTY, of Ames, who was selected to fill the vacancy, will teach manual training and eighth grade arithmetic.

The new $75,000 federal post office, advantageously located at the northwest corner of the square, adds substantial adornment to the business district of Mount Ayr, and citizens of Ringgold county have reason for pride in this improvement to the county seat.

Dorothy FOSTER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh FOSTER, of Mount Ayr, and Lawrence LOUDON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph LOUDON, of Washington township, went Tuesday morning to Bedford, where they were quietly married.

REDDING - In the 4-H club work held in Grant City last week, three Redding girls carried off some of the prizes. In the style show, Betty BROTT won first; best groomed, first; making dress, second and slip, second. Eva FULLERTON won first on style; first on making dress and second in health. Eva and Betty also received third place in demonstration team work. Alice ADAIR received third place on dress.
