Specialist Scott HENSLEY shared some of the items that represent his tour of duty in Iraq during a welcome home
open house in Mount Ayr Saturday.
A dozen new members were inducted into the Parnassus Chapter of the National Honor Society in ceremonies in the Mount Ayr
Community high school auditorium Monday night. New members included Katie WEDDLE, Melissa SCHAFER, Beckey WHITE,
Lacey MEESTER, Sandra WHITE, Jared BECK, Amanda HYNEK, Rachel LESAN, Alana JOHNSON, Michael INLOES, Dustin LARSEN and Scott
COOK. Helping with the induction were current members Kindra FISHER, Maggie GILLLILAND, Daniel GRAHAM, Anna RUSK,
Rachel SOBOTKA, Matthew WEEDA and Heidi WINKLER.
Rachel SOBOTKA was named the Arion award winner by Mount Ayr Lions Club president Charles HAWKINS at the spring parade
of bands concert out of a group of 16 seniors graduating from the band this year. She is the daughter of Gary and Darla
SOBOTKA of Mount Ayr.
Two Ringgold County farmers have volunteered their time to share agriculture's story as members of the 2004 Iowa Farm
Bureau Speaker Corps. Jim and Joy GOINS of Diagonal are part of the group that will use their practical on-farm
experiences to make presentations on production agriculture, its importance to Iowa's economy, food safety and affordability
and how farmers are caring for the environment.
A fire was fought Tuesday morning at an Iowa Select hog barn in the southeast corner of Tingley township. Tingley
Volunteer Fire Department members were called to the fire about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday after an employee found smoke in the
hog production building. Firemen thought that a lightning strike during the night set insulation in the building
roof smoldering. The fire eventuall broke into flames.
