RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
March 21 & 24, 1916

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

The school board met recently and re-elected Prof. W. H. Fasold as superintendent of the Mount Ayr schools, giving him a raise in salary of $50 per year. The board will met again in two weeks and elect the balance of teachers.

A. A. Peasley has purchased the lot just south of the brick livery barn and will erect a building for a garage.

E.S. Long sold his news depot on Depot Street Wednesday at auction, and the stock was purchased by A. F. (Fatty) Collins, who will continue the business at the old stand. He will also add a stock of candies, cigars, etc. to the newsstand.

Clair Porter and family leave Sunday for Clearfield, where he has secured a position in a butcher shop. They shipped their household goods Monday via the Burlington.

Clyde Cowell has accepted a position with the Oklahoma City ball club.

J. B. Hull has accepted the position of fireman on the C. G. Western, but has not decided where he will locate.

KELLERTON - Mrs. Frank Allen and children, of Leon, arrived Wednesday and will make their home here, where Mr. Allen is a mail carrier.

DIAGONAL - Bessie Lepley, our first primary teacher, resigned her position last week. A letter was received from her a day or two following her resignation with her name signed Mrs. Bessie Lepley Hoover.

Diagonal will soon have a bakery. The building is almost completed and John Ulrich, of Bedford, an experienced baker, will move in as soon as the building is ready.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES - The music classes are working on a three-act operetta, which they will produce in the near future. The cast includes some very good singers - Lois Adams, Reba Roberts, Murice White, Harry Spurrier and Ernest Tennant.

Anyone wishing to help out on the debt incurred by telephoning from Des Moines during the tournament may do so by leaving their money at Luce's Drug Store or with Raymond Harrold.

Births:

  • KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. Granville Tway are the proud parents of a little daughter, born to them on March 18.
