The bobsled wasn't going over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house - just around the play area at
Mount Ayr Community elementary school - last Wednesday, but kindergartners who bundled up to ride in the bobsled
behind a pair of Belgium horses seemed to have as much fun as if that had been their destination. There was enough
snow last week for Beauty and Dan, the draft horses, to give rides with the help of Gerald KELLER, Phillip KELLER,
Eric WALTER, Roger WALTER, and Ray WALTER.
For as long as he can remember, Clint RIGGS of Tingley has dreamed of playing college football at Iowa State
University. So other coaches from top schools who had been recruiting him shouldn't have been surprised this week
when the Mount Ayr Community high school senior signed a national letter of intent and financial aid agreement to join
the Cyclone football squad next fall.
Another Mount Ayr business, Tower Feed and Grain, is in the midst of becoming an economic casualty and expects to close
its doors by March 1 [1985]. The Tower Feed and Grain has been open under present management for the past three and one-half
years. Most recent manager was Martin HEINTZ. In the corporation as directors were Jim McCREARY, Bob McCREARY, Carl RIGGS,
Joel McCLURE, Robert BASTOW, Jerry SHIELDS, Myron INGRAM, and Tom LARSON.
The Busy Bee Creations business has been established on the north side of the Mount Ayr square -- in the middle section of
what was known as "the IRVING building." Owners Joana DUNFEE of Grant City, MO and Amy SHIELDS of Mount Ayr bought the
craft business from Retha FRENCH, another Mount Ayr business woman, and established themselves in this different location.
A second new business is this week being readied for a grand opening sometime in the middle of March. Owners Jim RUDDICK of
Beaconsfield and Don HEITHOFF of Ellston will be stocking appliances, furniture and other large items.
Mount Ayr congregate meals participants will be celebrating an 11th anniversary of the site program's beginning with a
special dinner and program Friday, Feb. 22. Mrs. Wilbur (Nola) LANDPHAIR was the meal site's first manager and served
until August of 1981 when Karen PETTIT assumed that position. Other present staff includes Violet STILL, cook; Daivy SEVIER, assistant,
and Owen SPENCER, Title 5 assistant.
Curt BRABY, now of Louisa county, but a former Ringgold resident, while at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck BRABY of
rural Maloy, has received a promotion as a member of the United Law Enforement group there. After ULE Sergeant Bill DIDERIKSON
resigned, the Louisa County Public Safety Commission promoted ULE officer, Curt BRABY, to the position of sergeant effective
Feb. 1 [1985]. BRABY has been employed by the ULE in Louisa countyfor about five years.
