Winning first prize was the home of John and Marge McFARLAND, who live at 802 West Madison Street in Mount Ayr. Taking
second place was the home of Dave and Cheryl STUCK South Lincoln in Mount Ayr and third place went
to the home of Robert and Shirley ERICKSON at 505 East Jefferson in Mount Ayr.
When the Southwest Iowa Honor Marching Band takes part in the three-mile Fiesta Bowl parade and handles the flag
ceremony before the Fiesta Bowl football game, a Mount Ayr Community high school student will be taking part. Josh SMITH,
son of James and June SMITH of Mount Ayr, will be playing the trombone with the band and taking part in the trip south
for the second time. A senior, SMITH made the trip with the honor band as a sophomore in January 1999.
Progress is being made toward putting the E-911 system in place in Ringgold county, following support of the proposal in the
November election. The E-911 surcharge of $2.50 per phone line should go into effect in February or early March, according
to Merle WALTER, coordinator of the Ringgold County Emergency Management Agency. A county addressing committe has also been
set up to choose an addressing system and name or number every road in the county. Members of the addressing committee
are Robert BENNETT, Jim GOINS, Richard SNETHEN, Kurtis SHAHA, Brian MOORE, Joe DUKES and Dennis CAMPBELL.
A Diagonal student at Iowa State University in Ames has accepted membership in Golden Key National Honor Society and was
honored during a campus ceremony at the campus recently. Bonnie Lee WERNER of Diagonal, daughter of Jim and Ann WERNER,
was named to the non-profit, academic honors organziation.
The Mount Ayr Restored Depot Museum, which was open during the Christmas tour of homes and window walk this year, has taken
on a festive holiday look again with the Festival of Trees displayed.
The MAC high school football cheerleaders have been recognized for excellence in academic achievement by the Iowa High
School Athletic Association. They includ Kelsey GREENMAN, Kayla BENDER, Rachael SOBOTKA, Laurie McGHEE, April PERRIGO,
Courtney CANNON, Sheryl DOLECHECK, Jennifer OSWALD and Andrea TAYLOR.
