Mayor Albert DRAKE and three councilmen have already turned in their written resignations and the other two council
members may not be far behind if the city's efforts to obtain errors and omissions insurance coverage fails.
By winning 15 blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair this year, Joy McFARLAND, had some of the top results at the Iowa State
Fair food contests this year. Her cookie baking talents won a reserve sweepstakes ribbon as she had six blue ribbons
for the second highest total in the cookie competition.
Mount Ayr Future Farmers of America chapter members picked up two champion awards in the FFA beef show at the Iowa State
Fair last week. Ed McCREARY showed the champion exotic heifer and Matt DAUGHTON showed the grand champion cow-calf
project to lead the list of placings by FFA members.
Thirty-five years of service by the Ringgold County Hospital -- that's what the Ringgold County Hospital patrons, staff and employees will be
celebrating during Ayr Days this September 5-7.
A Mount Ayr 4-H member qualified for the Ak-Sar-Ben livestock horse show in September by placing with purple or blue
ribbons at the 18th annual 4-H Ak-Sar-Ben qualifying horse show in Afton Saturday, August 9. Jamie DENNEY of Mount Ayr
received a purple ribbon in the junior girls western pleasure class, a purple ribbon in the junior girls western
horsemanship class, a purple ribbon in the junior cloverleaf barrels class and a blue ribbon in the junior pole bending
class at the show.
A 10-year-old Mount Ayr girl, Jody DENNEY, suffered a concussion when thrown from her horse as she finished riding in
barrel races Saturday, August 16, at Murray. Her horse was reported to have tripped on the way out of the show ring,
throwing her head-first to the ground. Her parents, Jim and Karen DENNEY, said the horse was stunned and Jody, knocked
unconscious, so neither got up. Jody was taken by ambulance to the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, where she stayed
overnight before coming home to recuperate.
Tingley's town council has a pleasant decision to make -- what to do with a gift of $10,000 to the community from Dr.
Charles (Chuck) O. ROUSH of Clinton. Dr. ROUSH, a resident of Tingley over 65 years ago, sent the check along with a
letter, which was read to the council. Billy BRECKENRIDGE presented the check to the council at its regular meeting
Tuesday, August 12.
People driving along Highway 2 have a new welcome to Poe
Hollow Park since a new sign was erected this summer. The colorful sign and a new bulletin board at the entrance of the
park are welcome additions that advertise the park well.
