Paul JOHNSON of Mount Ayr has recently been appointed by Governor Leo Hoegh as county chairman of June Dairy Month. For
the past several years June has been proclaimed as "Dairy Month in Iowa" -- a period devoted to promoting increased
sales of dairy products.
John IRVING, of Mount Ayr, president of the Southwestern Federated Power Cooperative and secretary-treasurer
of the Rideta Electric Cooperative, will appear on a radio program entitled " Rural Electric Reporter," to be presented
Tuesday morning, April 26, at 6:15 a.m., over station KMA, Shenandoah.
Neighbors of Raymond DRAKE met Monday afternoon at his farm and completed his spring plowing. Seventeen men, equipped with plows
and tractors, plowed thirty acres in two hours. Mr. DRAKE had been ill for the past two weeks with mumps and unable to
do his farm work. Men who participated in the "good neighbor" deed were Albert BAGLEY, Cloyde BEEDE, Rex BOLINGER,
Ernest BLACK, Elza FETTY, Roy GLENDENNING, Bill KELLEY, Frank HORNE, Raymond FROST, Wayne HENSLEY, Mark ELLIOTT, Howard
JOHNSTON, Ora MILLER, Albert DRAKE, Arthur RAUCH, Claude RHINEHART and Harold RICE
Miss Patricia BEARD, a junior at the State University of Iowa, was recently elected vice-president of the WSUI Radio
Guild. She assumed her duties immediately, after relinquishing her past secretarial position of the group. Miss BEARD is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John BEARD of this city.
C. Arthur HANSON, superintendent of the Earlham schools for the past five years, has contracted to serve as superintendent
of the Mount Ayr school, announcement of which was made yeserday by Paul JOHNSON, president of the board of education. Mr.
HANSON, a former superintendent of the Clearfield school, is married and has a son, 13 years of age, and a daughter, four.
Twenty-five applications for the position were received by the board of education.
Mr. and Mrs. E. C. WRIGHT celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 12 and on the occasion held an open
house in their home on Easter Sunday, April 10.
