For reasons unknown, a number of redheaded woodpeckers ahve declared war on Iowa Southern Utilities property near
Mount Ayr, according to company officials. Seemingly bent on destroying the poles that support the the 69kv transmission
line between the Mount Ayr and Diagonal substations, the tiny chiselers have been hammering away at the poles in search
of food. It is the largest number and size of the burrows that have kept a Mount Ayr line crew very busy plugging up the
holes in an effort to minimize damage and discourage further attacks by woodpeckers.
