The Mount Ayr chapter, Future Farmers of America, was adjusted one of the top 47 chapters in the nation including
Hawaii and Puerto Rico. This selection was made by the national headquarters in Washington, D.C. The winners represent the top
organizations out of the nation's 8,886 chapters.
Carl RIGGS of Tingley was appointed this week by the board of supervisors as a member of the Ringgold County Hospital
board of trustees. Mr. RIGGS, who is cashier of the Tingley State Savings Bank, succeeds H. E. TODD, who recently
tendered his resignation after accepting a position as traveling salesman for a hardward firm. Other trustees are
Rowe T. DENNEY, Redding; J. W. YOUNG, Mount Ayr; James MOON, Kellerton; Robert BECK, Kellerton; E. M. WATSON, Diagonal;
and Harold WEBB, Mount Ayr.
The books of W. B. CUNNING county finance chairman of the Ringgold county centennial, were closed this week and
his financial statement shows that income exceeded expenditures by $2,022.81. Total receipts amounted to $9,966.73, while expenditures
totaled $7,943.92.
On Monday afternoon, 51 men with wagons, five combines, seven pickers and three elevators met at the Alex SALTZMAN'S to
harvest their crop of soybeans and corn. Harry HETZEL and Kenneth CREVELING appeared and filled each tractor with
gasoline at the close of the harvesting and John FAUST hauled the soybeans to the elevator in Mount Ayr.
Walter ROBERTS of Mount Ayr suffered a broken ankle and chest injuries Saturday morning when he was attacked by a
Hereford bull on his farm near Troy. The bull charged, struck Mr. ROBERTS in the chest, knocked him to the ground
and then stepped on his left ankle. Members of the family on the farm rushed in to save Mr. ROBERTS from further attack.
He was taken to a hospital in Bloomfield where he remains a patient. Mr. ROBERTS also owns a large farm in Clinton
township and is superintendent of the Grand River school. Mrs. D. L. SMITHSON is supplying for Mr. ROBERTS in the school.
