A lifetime collection of memoriablilia from over 15,000 photographs to an 800,000 word diary and his historical
documents is being given to the Iowa State University library by a Tingley man. Clair HEYER, 89, is giving his
collection of photographs and documents to the special collections department at the Iowa State University library.
Michael FARIS of Mount Ayr, a Mount Ayr Community high school senior, is among 2,400 winners of Merit scholarships
financed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation this week. He will receive a scholarship to Iowa State
University in Ames through the program. FARIS plans to study secondary education at the university.
Rachel DERSCHIED, a Mount Ayr Community high school senior, has won a National Honor Scholarship sponsored by the
National Association of Secondary School Principals. The award, includes a $1,000 college scholarship. DERSCHIED was one of
250 students across the nation receiving the award.
Rachel DERSCHIED qualified in the 400-meter hurdles at the state track meet.
The Mount Ayr Community Raider golf team advanced through the district golf tournament to regional action by taking
second place at the regional at Red Oak this week. Members included Dustin EIGHMY, Joe SCHAFER, Nolan HOWIE, Brandon
YODER, Ryan ROE and Travis HINZ.
Oaths of office were given to new sheriff Bob BENNETT and new deputy sheriff Randy HULLINGER at a ceremony in
the courthouse last week.
