Heritage Cablevision subscribers in Mount Ayr may have an expanded cable channel lineup and be paying more for it.
That is the issue the Mount Ayr city council will discuss at a hearing set for April 7, when the cable television
company that serves the community brings a rate increase and channel increase proposal to the council. Under the
proposal, there will be six new channels added to the present lineup. Along with the increase in channels would
came a hike in the basic cable rate to $12.50 a month.
An end of an era came in Maloy last week when the WARIN Oil Co. station, the last business in Maloy, was closed.
The station had served as the center for the Maloy community for many years. Coincidentally, the station closed almost
simultaneously with the death of owner John WARIN, who died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines March 8. Headquarters of
the compnay which has service stations and Shamrock Cafe restaurants in a number of southern Iowa locations will
move from Maloy to Creston.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell HICKMAN and son Mark have been welcomed to Mount Ayr by Mrs. J. H. EDDY of the newcomer committee for
MARC '86. The HICKMANS moved from a farm in the Diagonal vicinity to 110 Shellway Drive, Mount Ayr. Lowell HICKMAN is
Ringgold county deputy sheriff and Mrs. HICKMAN, nursing instructor at Southwestern Community College in Creston. Mark
HICKMAN is a freshman at SWCC.
Michelle MAIN of rural Mount Ayr has filed as a Republican candidate for Ringgold county treasurer. MAIN worked
in the Ringgold county magistrate's office as a secretary from 1979 through 1982 and as deputy trasurer in the
county treasurer's office from 1982 to 1985.
Sheryl SMITH of Mount Ayr is the most recent Republican dandidate for Ringgold county recorder. A graduate of
the Mount Ayr Community high school, SMITH worked for 10 1/2 years in various capacities for the school district
and for 10 years as bookkeeper and secretary for Ringgold Ag Service, Inc. of Mount Ayr.
Being struck from behind by a pickup sent the Volkswagen driven by Bob POUSH of Mount Ayr into a
bridge railing in a March 4 accident. It happened near Winterhaven, CA, where POUSH and his wife, Marie,
were "wintering." The impact threw Mrs. POUSH out of the demolished vehicle, causing head and leg injuries that
took four hours of surgery to repair. The POUSHES' son-in-law and daughter are Doyle and Roberta CAMPBELL of Mount Ayr.
