When Dick and Marj PRENTIS of Mount Ayr really retire March 1, they will be turning over a thriving hobby-turned
business, PRENTIS Ceramics, to Coral and Gene SMITH. The shop began as Marj's hobby, gradually drew in Dick, who had
by then retired from many years at PRENTIS Hatchery, and developed into supplier of greenware for a large area as
well as involving some 30-40 persons per week in ceramic classes.
At the monthly hospital board meeting Rev. Ed KAIL expressed a concern of Ringgold County Ministerial Association
members regarding the rehiring of Ken REGER as administrator and the wish of the group for the development of
harmonious and helpful staff relations.
Natalie RUSH, a freshman at Iowa State University and granddaughter of Ringgold county residents, will be one of the
candidates for the Miss Iowa - USA pageant to be held in March. RUSH is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. RUSH of
Des Moines, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren RUSH of rural Kellerton and Mr. and mrs. Kenneth SHIELDS of
rural Mount Ayr.
Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes and the Grand Valley Tigerettes received mention in state basketball statistics released
this week by the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union. Mount Ayr Community and Grand Valley teams were listed with the top
team offensive averages in the state. Mount Ayr Community ranked 10th with an average of 76.56 points per game and
Grand Valley ranked 61st with an average 67.19 points per game.
King and queen were named for Valentine's Day at Mount Ayr meal site at Mount Ayr American Legion Friday. Queen for the
day was Ora RICE while Leroy SCHLAPIA was named king.
