The grand champion baby beef of the 1959 Ringgold County Fair was an outstanding Hereford shown by Judy BRAMMER of
Redding. The best of the junior livstock show weighed 910 pounds. The reserve champion in the baby beef division at the
fair was an Angus shown by Teena LYNCH of Maloy. The reserve champion weighed 1,065 pounds. Dan CARR of Maloy exhibited
the champion market pig, a trim 180-pound Hampshire barrow, at the Ringgold County Fair. Dan also showed the top pen of
three. The Maloy Shamrocks edged out the Junior Farmers to win the 4-H Club award for herdsmanship at the Ringgold
County Fair, which closed Saturday night. The Tingley Toppers placed third among the 4-H Clubs in the county. The herdsmanship
award is presented to the club which displays its exhibits to the best advantage and keeps its stalls and alleyways clean
during the fair. Five youth were named as top showmen in the 4-H and F.F.A. division of the Ringgold County Fair held
last week. They and the divisions in which they exhibited are Lyle FARIS, Mount Ayr, swine; Jackie WACKERNAGLE, Redding,
beef; Ronnie SHIELDS, Tingley, sheep; Dick AKERS, Benton, dairy cattle; and Gary GILES, Ellston, colts.
Ralph OSHEL of Diagonal was released yesterday from the Ringgold County Hospital, where he was treated for three
fractured ribs and minor cuts and bruises sustained Monday evening whenhis car struck the abutment of the bridge
across Grand River south of Diagonal on Highway No. 66.
Residents of the Redding community have returned to their normal pattern of living following Sunday's search for an
accused wife slayer and his teeenage companion, who escaped Saturday night from the Rock Rapids (Lyon County, Iowa) jail.
Dozens of Iowa and Missouri peace officers converged on the Redding area Sunday afternoon in search of the escapees,
Jack HOSKINS, 31, who is awaiting trial for the slaying of his 22-year-old wife on January 5, 1958, and Larry LOGAN, 18,
who is charged with breaking and entering. They escaped from the Rock Rapids jail when they struck Sheriff Neal KROON
over the head with a bottle and locked him and his wife in jail cells.
