RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, April 20, 1967

by Chanse Hall, Mount Ayr Record-News

Three of four 14-year-old boys of Minneapolis, MN, who were being held in connection with car thefts, including Richard Todd, 19, escaped the Ringgold county jail, Monday night. Des Moines police said the four rode to Des Moines in a car driven by Todd's older brother, Edward Todd, of Mount Ayr. After the boys left the car at East 15th and Court, Todd notified Des Moines of the escape about midnight and immediately they contacted Ringgold county sheriff Elbert Strange. According to Strange, the youths tore up a shower in the fourth-floor cell and used a pip from it to batter the cell door locks. The juveniles were in one cell and Todd in another. One youth chose to remain in his cell. The boys eventually turned themselves back in to authorities.

Mrs. Dean Jackson, of Kellerton, was elected president of the Ringgold County Tuberculosis and Health Association during its annual spring meeting held Wednesday night of last week in the Shamrock Cafe.
