Harry MARSHALL, who recently came to this city, called by the critial illness of his father Mark D. B. MARSHALL, has accepted a position with the Mount Ayr Light & Power Company, so that he can be with his father. Mr. MARSHALL has been employed in Spokane, Wash., from which city he came to Mount Ayr

Frank RODGERS, of Oklahoma, came Saturday to take a position as tinner in C. R. KEATING'S hardware store.

KELLERTON - At the school election held here Tuesday on the proposition of issuing bonds to build a new school building there was quite an exciting time. This being the first time that the ladies voted, most everyone in town was anxious to vote. There were 368 votes cast, 218 favorable and 150 against. Of the total of 185 males votes, 106 were for it and 70 against. There were 183 women votes, 112 for it and 71 against, showing that the ladies sure did their part in boosting for the new schoolhouse.

DIAGONAL - At a school meeting held Saturday, teachers for the coming year were elected as follows: Principal, Mr. O'NIEL, of Weldon; assistant principal, Ima RUBY; grammar room, Mary MAXWELL; intermediate, Alice MAXWELL; first primary, Bessie LEPLEY. Mr. QUINN, who has been president of the board since the spring election, resigned on account of his leaving for California, and Dr. L. F. TALLEY was elected temporary president.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES: During one of the junior meetings held recently, a committee, composed of Birdice KING, Beatrice HANNELLY, Iowa REGER, Ava WALLACE and Bessie STUCK, was appointed as a "committee on committees" for the reception which the juniors will give the seniors this spring.

  • Mr. and Mrs. N. H. SMITH are the proud parents of a fine little son, born to them on April 20.
  • Maloy - Mr. and Mrs. Robert SHAY are the proud parents of a new baby girl born April 19.
  • Benton - Mr. and Ms. John HALL are the proud parents of a baby boy, born April 8.
  • Benton - Mr. and Mrs. Floyd SCHLAPIA are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby boy, born April 12.
