Wednesday Peggy WHITSON was the grand marshall of the Iowa State Fair parade.

Peggy WHITSON spent a few days visiting with her parents, Keith and Beth WHITSON, during the week.

Rex and Ann WALTERS and Mark and Janelle DAVISON and sons, Cooper and Drake, went to the Iowa State Fair and watched Amy WEEDA show her sheep in the FFA class.

Friday evening Ellen HOHBACK of White Lake, SD and Elissa HOHBACK of Brookings, SD and Seth HOHBACK of Jackson, MN came to visit with Eugene and Esther McALEXANDER. Saturday morning they all went to the Iowa State Fair where they met with Emily ROEPSCH and sons, Ryan and Justin. The group later met with Kate and Carter OLIVER who are working in the 4-H building. On Sunday Ellen and her children returned to their homes.

Tuesday Kenneth and Virginia McALEXANDER, Jerry and Rose McALEXANDER, Debbie Van HORN, Larry and Cathy McALEXANDER and Dale and Joy McALEXANDER, Ruth McALEXANDER, Eugene and Esther McALEXANDER and Don JOHNSTON attended funeral services of Josie McALEXANDER in Sidney.

Michelle ROTERT spent the week with her grandparents, Ed and Loretta ROTERT, camping at the Iowa State Fair. Anne ROTERT-MOORE and new three-week-old granddaughter, Abby, joined them on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday morning, Michelle took Abby on the elephant ride and the group spent a lot of time touring the fair. Carrie ROTERT and Jessica ROTERT came on Saturday and spent some time at the fair and Michelle returned home with them.

Eugene and Esther McALEXANDER were happy when they heard the news that their granddaughter, Kate OLIVER of Woodbine, was selected to be a member of the first team of the all-state softball team in Class 1A. Kate is the daughter of Evelyn and Larry OLIVER.

The Thimble Club met with Eva KNAPP on Tuesday with Dorothy DENNEY, Peggy OVERHOLSTER, Kathy BAKER, Naomi SHAFER, Annabell WALKUP and Bessie PARKER present. The club's quilt is on display now in the window at Laverne's Boutique in Mount Ayr where raffle tickets for it will be available. The club membrs made plans to attend the Sunday afternoon performance of "Farmer Song" at the newly reopened Princess Theater in Mount Ayr.

The community was saddened Sunday to learn that one of its lifetime residents, Harry SKARDA, had passed away at the Ringgold County Hospital. Services were held Wednesday, August 13, at Wilson, Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with burial following at Tingley. Sympathy is extended to his family.

Congratulations to Wilmoth NICHOLS who won the senior spelling bee held Wednesday at the Iowa State Fair.

Congratulations to Barb KIBURZ, a Tingley resident who won the sweepstakes award in the Midwest cookie contest held at the Iowa State Fair. The area had many fine entries at the state fair. They were very well represented and all are proud of each and every one of them.
