Lester SICKELS, Republican state representative from Ringgold county in the 59th general assembly of Iowa, has been
appointed to eight important committees. The assignements were announced by Henry NELSON of Forest City, who is speaker
of the house. Mr. SICKELS is serving his second term as state representative. He and Mrs. SICKELS and son Dan spend
the weekends at their farm in Liberty township. While residing in Des Moines during the session, their address is 833
Third Street.
Mrs. J. E. BRADLEY, who was burned seriously January 8, in an explosion in the BRADLEY'S trailer home in Clearwater,
FL, died Friday in the Morton Plant Hospital in that city. Mr. and Mrs. BRADLEY, who were spending the winter in
Clearwater, suffered second and third degree burns in the explosion. They were taken to the hospital in Clearwater,
where Mrs. BRADLEY died and where Mr. BRADLEY remains a patient.
Thirty thousand bushels of soybeans have been shipped by rail from Mount Ayr by the Iowa Grain Company since the
harvest season. Seventeen railroad cars were required to transport the beans to Galesburg, IL, where delivery was
made to the Soya Products Compnay.
Mary BLACK, senior, is the 1961 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for the Mount Ayr community high school.
A new conferene, composed of Villisca, Bedford, Lenox, Mount Ayr, East Union (Afton) and Greenfield, has been formed
and will be known as the Tall Corn Conference. The name, submitted by four students of the Mount Ayr Community high
school -- Teena LYNCH, Phillip HERRINGTON, Bill WARIN and Susie HUNT -- was accepted by the officials of the six
schools during a meeting held Thursday night in Lenox.
Mrs. John H. DENHART suffered severe cuts to her right hand in a fall Friday at her home in west Mount Ayr. Mrs. DENHART
had gone outdoors to pick up a coffee can out of the yard. She stepped on a patch of ice in the yard and, when she fell,
her hand struck the top of the can.
