Joy BROWN, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter BROWN of Beaconsfield and a junior in the Beaconsfield high school, suffered fatal injuries in a car accident Sunday morning. With her and two brothers, Arlen, 20, and Gale, 19, and two sisters, Sharon, 15, and Reta, 10, Joy was en route to her home, four and one-half miles northeast of Ellston about 10:15 a.m. after attending Sunday school in Beaconsfield.

The car, a 1952 Ford, driven by Arlen, struck loose gravel when within about a half mile of the BROWN home, left the road and overturned in a ditch.

NOTE: Joy Ann BROWN was born 1938, and was interred at Tingley Cemetery, Tingley, Iowa.

J. E. HORNE announces the sale of one-half interest in HORNE'S Rexall Store in Mount Ayr to W. C. HAROVER, Junior, effective January 1, 1956. Mr. HORNE has been identified with the Rexall Store in Mount Ayr since June, 1919, following his discharge from military service during World War I and he has been sole owner of the store since 1938. Mr. HORNE is recognized as an outstanding druggist and operates one of the leading Rexall stors in southern Iowa.

A doctor of divinity degree was presented the Rev. S. P. WILLIAMSON of Fairfield during the first alumni honors convocation of Parsons College held Sunday afternoon in Fairfield. The Rev. Mr. WILLIAMSON, an alumnus of Parsons College, served for several years as pastor of the Christian Church in Mount Ayr and presently is pastor of the Fairfield Christian Church.

Robert BECK of Riley township was elected chairman of teh Ringgold County Hospital board of trustees at a meeting held Wednesday night of last week. Other officers elected include Harold WEBB, vice-chairman and Carl RIGGS, Tingley, secretary.

  • January 16, a son, Arthur William, to Mr. and Mrs. William DAVIS, Diagonal
  • January 16, a daughter, Glenda Jean, to Mr.and Mrs. Harold GOLLIDAY, Mount Ayr
