Diagonal is one of the 129 Iowa communities which has been chosen to participate in the Branching Out tree planting program
sponsored by Alliant Energy and Trees Forever. Diagonal will receive $500 under the program this year as part of $407,900 being
distributed during the 2003-04 program year.
A Mount Ayr doctor has become one of the 1,530 physicians in the United States to become board certified in Hospice
and palliative medicine this past week. Bruce RICKER, D.O., received the certification. Dr. RICKER, who is also board
certified in family practice, has been the medical director of Hospice of Central Iowa, Mount Ayr office, since its
beginning in July 2000.
Mount Ayr Community junior high and senior high bands and choirs combined for the annual pops concert held Monday night
at the high school auditorium. As well as numbers by the jazz bands, concert bands and choruses, the junior high and high
school bands placed a number together. Grand finale of the evening was a production for all the choir members and th e
high school band members of "Andrew Lloyd Webber: A Concert Celebration," featuring numbers from famous musicals. Aaron COMER
directed the choirs and Greg STORHOFF directed the bands for the final number.
