Employees of the Miracle Recreation plant in Mount Ayr received the bad news this past week that the manufacturing plant
located in Mount Ayr will be closing effective December 31. The closing of the plant here, which has focused on manufacturing
bleacher in recent years, will mean some 30 employees will lose their jobs.
Winning entry in the third annual Mount Ayr Christmas Lighted Parade was a horse-drawn wagon entry from Ramsey Farm
at Lesanville. People were given rides in the wagon following the parade. Second place went to Royce and Judy DREDGE
and third place to the Mount Ayr Lions Club.
A Ringgold county group was the recipient of one of the grants when the Clarke County Development Corporation awarded
$168,983 in grants in its fourth semi-annual distributions of the group's share of revenues from Lakeside Casino in
Osceola. The Ramsey Farm Foundation received $10,000 to assist in the restoration of the Axtel house, which will house
the school-age children and tourists who come to stay at Lesanville.
For the sixth consecutive year, a Mount Ayr Community high school student had earned a spot in the Southwest Iowa Honor
Concert band. At tryouts Saturday in Red Oak, Rachel SOBOTKA, a senior, was selected to play in the junior-senior honor
band. SOBOTKA plays the clarinet. She is the daughter of Gary and Darla SOBOTKA of Mount Ayr.
