Ginger PETTIT showed the grand champion broiler in the 4-H poultry show at the Iowa State Fair this week. Matt PETTIT was
awarded the reserve champion broiler as well.
Three Ringgold county area athletes compted at the Iowa Games recently. Danny J. NELSON of Diagonal placed second in his
event with a discus throw of 127':7". Ethan SICKELS of Kellerton placed second in tennis singles for his age group. Shelley
HOCKING of Clearfield placed first in singles bowling with a series of 766.
A considerable amount of damage was done by fire to a bedroom and smoke damage resulted throughout the Mount Ayr home of
Junior PAGE on August 13. The fire was thought to be started from a cord to a window air conditioner. A few items were
gotten out of the house, but smoke had a big effect on the rest of the furnishings.
Lee and Donella CREVELING of Ellston will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house August 28 at the
Ellston community building. The couple was united in marriage on August 30, 1944
Two engagements were announced in this issue: Lorinda KINTON, daughter of Pastors Phil and Doris KINTON of Mount
Ayr, to James PARKER, son of Edwin and Sherrie PARKER of Blue Springs, MO; and Rich LONETTI, son of Frank and
Marcia LONETTI of Redding, to Elizabeth LEE, daughter of Jacquilyn LOUDENBACK and Frederick LEE.
