Shirley GOINS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd GOINS of Diagonal, was named "Queen of Conservation" at the southwest Iowa Soil Conservation Regional Contest held August 11 in Clarinda during the Page County Fair.

One of the two change makers at the coin-operated Mount Ayr Launderette was pried open some time after midnight Sunday and approximately $30 in dimes were taken. The loss was reported to Sheriff Warren DRAKE by Mrs. Roland EVANS, manager. The launderette is owned by Norman BARKER of Winterset.

Arthur S. PALMER, abstracter, announces the sale of the Mount Ayr Abstract Company to the W. B. CUNNING Co., effective September 1. Mr. PALMER, who has been in the abstract business in Mount Ayr for 27 years, will leave this evening for Visalia, CA. Mr. PALMER will return the first of September to train Chas. J. LESAN as an abstracter in the W. B. CUNNING Company office.

The formal opening of the extensively remodeled and redecorated Sandwich SHop will be held Friday. The new owners, Bernard and Leta SULLIVAN, announce that free doughnuts and coffee will be served on the opening day.

Marcia FENNEMA, who toured Europe this summer with the Scottish Highlanders of the State University of Iowa, returned Monday evening to her home in Mount Ayr. Miss FENNEMA flew Monday from Boston to Des Moines, where she was met by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman FENNEMA.

  • August 11, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Paul KERBER, Clearfield
