Virginia LYON, a teacher in the Kellerton schools this year, has been elected sixth grade teacher in the Mount Ayr school for the 1940-1941 school year. She succeeds Miss BEAN, who was reelected for next year, but has resinged. Miss LYON'S salary was fixed at $900.

Laveta SCHLAPIA, of Lincoln township, began work this week in the Mowry Beauty Shoppe in Mount Ayr. Miss SCHLAPIA, who recently graduated from Thompson's Beauty School in Des Moines, replaces Vionell LASON.

Newly elected Sunday school officers of the Benton Methodist Church are Leonard SCHLAPIA, superintendent; Miss Ruth PAGE, assistant superintendent; Iris SCHLAPIA, boys' class teacher; Mrs. Dorcie HILL, girls' class teacher; Mildred DIXON, primary; and, Beulah EAGEN, adults' class.

During a recent meeting of the town council, the following scale of wages to be paid to the employees of the town of Mount Ayr was adopted: police, $60 per month; street commissioner, 30 cents per hour; common labor, 25 cents per hour; man and team, 45 cents per hour; man and truck, 75 cents per hour; and, town clerk, $55 per month.

Announcement has been made of the marriage of Betty HIGHTSHOE and Paul HACKE, of Lamoni, on November 17, 1939, with the Rev. Paul HILMAN, of Lamoni, officiating. The young couple will be at home in Lamoni after May 1.

DIAGONAL - Darlene ANDERSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd ANDERSON, of Mount Pleasant, and Dale HERRINGTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. HERRINGTON, of Diagonal, were united in marriage August 23, 1939, at Kahoka, MO. Mr. HERRINGTON is the principal and coach of the school in Newburg, in which city the young couple will be at home.
