A new look is taking place around the Mount Ayr square, thanks to a series of grant and loan programs which are helping in
the renovation of buildings located there. Work is being done on 10 store fronts around the square with money from the Dr.
William Henry LANDES grants and United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development revolving loan fund, which
matched the LANDES grants.
Craig ELLIOTT was named president
in the Mount Ayr Community school board's reorganization meeting Monday night.
Subject to a joint venture agreement
being signed between parties and their approval of a feasibility study now underway, a new hotel and suites facility is
being planned at the southwest corner of Highway 2and 169 in eastern Mount Ayr. Plans for the new facility were
announced this week by Ramsey and Sons,a Newport Beach, CA, based real estate development company and Larry and Sandy
LAMB of Mount Ayr.
A former Ringgold county resident, Lucille (FARIS) DEEMER of Davis City, recently was inducted into
the 4-H Hall of Fame during an awards ceremony at the Iowa State Fair. DEEMER was nominated for her years of outstanding
service and dedication to the 4-H program. DEEMER was a member of the Gay Farmerettes 4-H Club for eight years, was a 4-H
leader in Decatur county for 14 years and has been judging Family and Consumer Sciences exhibits for 20 years in Wayne,
Appanoose, Clarke, Union and Ringgold counties.
Dale BLACK, a longtime bowler, went
bowling at his old league time one last time Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Majestic Lanes in Mount Ayr, a wish that was granted
through the Hospice of Central Iowa. BLACK, who is 89, picked up a spare that night from his wheelchair.
