Death claimed the life of Staff Sergeant Mike E. MOSER, 32, when an Air Force AC-130 cargo plane covering the United
States withdrawal from Somalia crashed in shallow water off the coast of Kenya, Africa, Monday, March 14. MOSER'S
parents are Grace and Henry MOSER of Mount Ayr.
The officers and members of Faith Lodge No. 179 are planning a celebration in observance of the 150th anniversary of
the Masonic Fraternity of Iowa. The event will be open to the public and will be held March 23 at the Masonic Temple
in Mount Ayr. The program will include a brief history of Freemasonry in Iowa and of Faith Lodge No. 179.
A 20th anniversary was celebrated at the Mount Ayr Congregate Meal Site March 4. There were 160 people who enjoyed a
meal of baked ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, relishes, ice cream and cake.
IES Utilities will no longer sell appliances through its local custormer service offices. The company will discontinue
the appliance sales once current inventories are sold.
Three MAC FFA chapter members qualified for state FFA contests at the district contest at Des Moines Area Community
College in Ankeny Saturday. The program activities team of Dana WEEDA, Tim McALEXANDER and Josie DOLECHECK received
a silver rating and advanced to state competition.
Two MAC high school teams will be participating in the state bowling meet in Cedar Rapids. The teams won the district
Class A title recently. The Raider bowling team included Jason ADAMS, Travis JOHNSON, Justin MURPHY, Brian ROUDYBUSH and
Ethan SICKELS. The Raiderette bowling team includes Josie DOLECHECK, Megan McFARLAND, Julie COOPER, Nichole GROSE and
Dana WEEDA. James SMITH is sponsor for the activity.
Marine PFC. Ian R. McGAHUEY, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGAHUEY of Mount Ayr, recently completed recruit training
and was promoted to his present rank.
