An early morning fire March 9 resulted in the loss of at least $20,000 worth of pigs, a large barn and some machinery by the Dale WALTERS family who live
four and one-half miles southwest of Mount Ayr on Highway 169.
Expanding the scope of the former Mount Ayr Community Improvement Club, a new organization to work for "advancing the commercial, industrial and civic
interests of Mount Ayr and the surrounding area" was set up in a series of meetings last week. MARC '83 is the name of the new organization, which
stand for Mount Ayr Resource Commission, officially organized at a meeting in the Ringgold county courthouse assembly room March 8.
Pat HENDERSON won the award for the "best bowler" in the Mount Ayr junior leagues for the 1982-83 season. He finished the season with 164 average for
28 games. This is the fifth consecutive year that HENDERSON has won this award. He is completing his ninth year in the junior bowling program and is a
high school senior. Doug SAVILLE and Katie MONAGHAN were the other winners in the high school league.
Peter HAYSE of Mount Ayr was one of two youth selected to serve on the state 4-H council following interviews by the Midcrest Youth Council recently.
HAYSE, a junior at Mount Ayr Community high school was one of two candidates chosen after four 4-H members were interviewed. Also chosen was Jess YAEGER of
rural Leon.
Beth STILL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon STILL of Kellerton, was chosen as the South Central District Future Farmers of America reporter. Beth is the
second student from the Grand Valley FFA Chapter to become a district officer.
Ryan HOPKINS received a gold medal for his fruit and vegetalbe proficiency entry at the district Future Farmers of America meeting in Truro recently. HOPKINS, a
member of the Grand Valley FFA chapter, was on of eight entries from the school and will advance to state competition in April.
Cliff TIPTON of Mount Ayr will be seen on the "Let's Go Bowling" show on WHO-TV, Channel 13 this Sunday morning, March 20, at 10 a.m. TIPTON, who
qualified at Winterset, will be a member of the team from that area bowling a Des Moines team on the program.
Francis VIRDEN has been named mental health bell ringer chairman in Kellerton for the May fund drive, announced Connie Hora, president of the Mental
Health Association of Iowa, Inc.

A daughter, born March 7, to Mr. and Mrs. Delbert MOLT, Blockton.
A son, born March 8, to Mr. and Mrs. Keith WILLEY, Mount Ayr.
