A good deal of conversation has taken place during the past several months over the dilemma of how to handle the problem
of loss of revenue at the Ringgold County Recovery Center. The decision to close the Recovery Center was made at the
Ringgold County Hospital board meeting held Monday, June 14.
The body of Don NEWTON, 50 of Kellerton, was recovered from Three Mile Lake north of Afton Tuesday morning. The body was
found along the west side of the lake by Marc ROBERG, Department of Natural Resources conservation officer. According to
officials, NEWTON drowned while water skiing Saturday, June 5, with family at the lake. He reportedly jumped into the
lake to retrieve a ski and did not resurface.
Two longtime Mount Ayr community school employees who are retiring were honored with plaques at the Mount Ayr
Community school board meeting Monday night. Plaques were presented to assistant administrator Jean YEAROUS for
34 years of teaching and administrative work, and to elementary principal Larry GILES for 33 years of teaching and
administrative work in the district.
Gregory ANDERSON, a young Mount Ayr fisherman, pulled a catfish weighing over two pounds out of the pond at
Poe Hollow Park in Mount Ayr while fishing there recently.
