On December 1 Earl PICKENS assumed the duties of manager of the Hy-Vee Food Store in Beford. Mr. PICKENS, son of Mrs.
Audrey PICKENS of this city, had served for the past two years as assistant manager of the Hy-Vee Store in Ford
Madison, prior to which he was employed in Ames. He was joined Tuesday in Bedford by Mrs. PICKENS, the former Donna
LILES of Mount Ayr, and their three daughters, Candy, Barbara and Ann.
On the event of his retirement from 30 years of continous service with the Iowa Southern Utilities Company in Mount
Ayr, Charles R. TRIMBLE was honored at a party held November 30 in the home of manager and Mrs. Darrell REED and sons.
Sixty-three Ringgold county boys and girls became new 4-H members during the enrollment month of November. The list
included 26 boys and 37 girls.
Petitions for the establishment of a new Mount Ayr Community school district in Ringgold and Taylor counties are on file
in the office of Vera F. DICKENS, county superintendent of schools. The proposed new district would embrace the
present district of 308 square miles and the Tingley Independent and Tingley Township districts of 21 square miles.
Glen HUTCHINSON, who owns an operates a grocery store in Diagonal, suffered cuts and bruises Saturday night about 11 o'clock
when his pickup went out of control in the dense fog and overturned at the junction of Highways 66 and 2, five
miles west of Mount Ayr.
Three young people were injured, one seriously, in a one-car accident which happened Sunday morning at 2:15 o'clock, two
miles east of the west county line on Highway 2. Most seriously injured was Dennis POWELL, 21, of Mount Ayr who suffered
broken ribs and severe scalp wounds. Other occupants of the car were Patricia WALTER, 18, of Lenox, who suffered a
bruised ankle; Nancy WESTLAKE, 15, of Lenox, whose back was injured; and Dennis WARD, 22, of Mount Ayr, who escaped
injury.
Neighbors and friends gathered December 7 at the home of Mrs. Annis WARDEN of Blockton and picked her corn.
