Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

The Mount Ayr Community football field served as a mock battlefield for a few minutes Friday when National Guard troops from Corning demonstrated helicopter assault tactics for Mount Ayr Community high school students, who watched from the stands. An "enemy" machine gun nest had been set up under a goal post and the two large helicopters dropped the troops on the field to secure the "enemy" gunners. Helicopters then returned for the troops and students had an opportunity to get a close look at the helicopters and ask questions about what they had seen. The helicopters swooping over the community brought many people outside to see what was going on.

"Adding to that problem is that we have corn sprouting in the field, which will cause another storage problem. "With the continued damp rainy weather, sprouting corn could become critical, according to HAYSE.
