A Mount Ayr FFA chapter member received the American FFA degree, the highest degree awarded by the National FFA
organization, at the national convention in Kansas City, MO last week. Brian BICKEL of Clearfield received the honor,
which is based on demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding achivements in agricultural business, production,
processing and service programs. BICKEL is the son of Dale and Marla BICKEL of Clearfield and is currently farming
with his parents.
The report of Kay ALLEN of Tingley is optimistic. ALLEN underwent a lung transplant operation Thursday morning, Nov. 9,
at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis. By Monday, Nov. 24, she was out of intensive care. On Tuesday,
Nov. 14, according to her sister-in-law, Kay DRAKE of Mount Ayr, all tubes had been removed, there were no intervenous
feedings hooked up and she was off supplementary oxygen.
Ringgold is mentioned in an article about touring the southern part of Iowa in the November-December issue of Home
and Away, a magazine of the American Automobile Association (AAA). The article "Bits of Heaven," by Mike Whye gives
information on places to visit along Highway 2 and Highway 34 between Beford and Bloomfield, Corning and Ottumwa. The
Ringgold County Trailway is mentioned as a place to stop in Mount Ayr along the trip.
A Ringgold county student is playing basketball for the Central College Flying Dutchmen in Pella this year. DiAnna FARIS,
a junior from Mount Ayr, is a guard on the squad.She reported late to practice because she spent a term studying in Chicago.
