The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company has been granted permission by the Iowa State Commerce Commission
to discontinue train service from Davis City through Mount Ayr to the south Iowa state line and the Burlington
Transportation Company has been given the authority to inaugurate bus service. The bus service will be over
substantially the same route served by trains, except for Lamoni and Delphos, and the time schedule will be
practically the same.
Rex FLEMING, who has been employed at Freeland's Store for the past few years, has accepted a position as manager
of a Ben Franklin store in Morton, IL, and left Sunday evening for that city.
In 1889, a young man by the name of Ben THOMPSON became a member of the Mount Ayr Fire Department, and last evening
his services were terminated when he was presented an honorable discharge with a fifty-year service certificate and a
beautifully upholstered chair and ottoman as an award for his faithful work in the organization. Mr. THOMPSON served as
fire chief for twelve years. Mr. THOMPSON was also the guest of honor at the regular meeting of the Mount Ayr
Co-operative Club held Thursday night, and for which H.H. TEDFORD was the principal speaker.
Maxine HUFFMAN, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle HUFFMAN of Benton township, and Harry BUELL, son of Mrs.
Elva BUELL, of Mount Ayr, were married November 4, at the Methodist parsonage in Albany, Mo., the Rev. SEYFETH officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. BUELL will make their home in Mount Ayr, where he has employment with the Anderson Transfer Company.
Howard McCLANAHAN, who is contemplating removal from Iowa, last week presented to the Ringgold County Historical Society
interesting articles brought to the county more than seventy years ago by his father, the late F.M. McCLANAHAN, of
Rice township.
