Mount Ayr’s chief of police Jim WOOD was slightly injured Tuesday night at 9:45 p.m. when the patrol car he was driving and a car driven by Steven RIEF, 18, of Diagonal, collided at the intersection of South Polk and East Van Buren streets.

David BARKER was adjudged winner of the Ringgold county soil conservation speech contest, the finals of which were held May 10, in the ag building in Mount Ayr. As the winner, David, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence BARKER of Benton and asenior in the Mount Ayr Community high school, received a cash prize of $7.50 as offered by the Ringgold Mutual Insurance Association. Winner of second place and a prize of $5 from the insurance association was Jack GROSS, freshman and son of the Joe GROSSES of Mount Ayr.

Mrs. Gerold WILLEY was elected president of the Mount Ayr Parent-Teachers Association during a business meeting held Wednesday night of last week in the school gymnasium. She succeeds Mrs. Donald DAILEY, who capably served as president of the organization during the past year. Other officers selected were Kathryn CHARTRAND, vice president; Mrs. Jack ELLIOTT, secretary, and Mrs. Frank HORNE, treasurer.

The Mount Ayr Community high school track team qualified two men for the state Class A track meet at the district meet held Friday night in Clarinda. Rick DEFENBAUGH qualified in three events and Eugene RICKER in two. DEFENBAUGH will compete in the hurdles and broad jump, while RICKER will run in the 100 and 220 at the state meet scheduled for May 25 in Iowa City.
