William T. (Tom) Allen, deputy director of personnel with the 311th Logistical Command in Los Angeles, CA, was promoted January 5 to the rank of major.

Five young men were ordered to report for examinations Tuesday in Des Moines by the Ringgold County local board of the Selective Service System. They are Dennis Dean Hailey, Jerry LeRoy Oxley, David Ray Adams, Donald Ray Goins and Kenneth Eugene Wood.

Pvt. E-2 Kendrick D. Jones, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Jones of Tingley, completed basic combat training January 12 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

43 Mount Ayr Community High School athletes, representing wrestling, boys' and girls' basketball, received athletic awards from their respecitve coaches on Monday.

Larry L. Adams, of Mount Ayr, was one of 131 winter quarter farm operations students who completed their course work at Iowa State University last week and were recognized in ceremonies for parents and students in the College of Agriculture.
