Homecoming activities are underway at Grand Valley Community high school in Kellerton. Queen candidates include
Rhonda PARKHURST, Jill SCHWALBE, Gina HEWLETT and Jodi PERKINS. King candidates include Tracy LESAN, Galen
JIMMERSON, Dennis STARK and Chad HEWLETT. Attendants for the classes are juniors Darin HOPKINS and Lori DEEMER,
sophomores Kirk HEWLETT and Patty BULLOCK, and freshman Bill LEEPER and Teresa GAGE.
Angie SPURRIER of Clearfield and Bobby ALLEE of Diagonal were named queen and king of Diagonal-Clearfield
homecoming festivities Friday night, Jan. 10, at the Diagonal gymnasium. SPURRIER is the daughter of
Dean and Brenda SPURRIER, and ALLEE is the son of Neva and Ed ALLEE.
Two Mount Ayr Community high school band students have been named 1986 United States National Award winners, it was
announced this week. Jerry NOBLE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollin NOBLE of Mount Ayr, and Emily McALEXANDER, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McALEXANDER of Beaconsfield, have been named to the award through the nomination of Rick
MOORE, MACHS band director.
Three titles and an overall third place finish were brought home by the Mount Ayr Community Raiders from the Tall Corn
Conference wrestling tournament in Greenfield. Roby SHAY at 112 pounds, Rowdy McDOWELL at 185 pounds and John FORD
at heavyweight, won weight division titles for the Raiders.
