RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, January 16, 1964

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

The most destructive fire of the 12-month period of 1963 was on September 8, when the Bastow Feed and Grain incurred damages approximating $30,000.

Ivan Everett KIMBALL, 22, of Mount Ayr, escaped injury Sunday afternoon about 2:30 p.m., in a one-car accident six miles south and one-fourth mile east of Mount Ayr. The car hit a snowdrift in the road, which caused it to upset and land on its top. Damage to the 1954 Ford was approximated at $300 by Sheriff Elbert STRANGE, who investigated the accident.

Roy D. MULLENAX, mathematics instructor and assistant football coach in the local high school since 1957, died suddenly Saturday night in the Ringgold County Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Charles Wayne McGEHEE, Jr., 18-year-old Mount Ayr youth, was killed and five other youths were injured in a two-car collision Friday night about 11:15 p.m. Injured in the accident were Gary WELLS, 26, and Donnie PINE, 19, of Mount Ayr, students at Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO, and Tedde BLUNCK, 17, of Mount Ayr, William (Bill) ENGLAND, 17, of Tingley, and Allan KINNEY, 17, of rural Arispe, seniors and juniors respectively in the Mount Ayr Community high school. The accident happened about one and a fourth miles north of the city limits on what is known as the new lake road. The two cars, a 1956 Ford driven by McGEHEE and traveling south, and the northbound 1963 Ford driven by ENGLAND met head-on at the crest of a hill. Both cars were completely demolished
