Relatives have received word from Mr. and Mrs. Roy SWIGART of Corvallis, OR that their residence property was
recently damaged by fire in the extent of approximately $1,800. The SWIGARTS were absent at the time of the fire
but their daughter, Mrs. Fred SHANNON, her two children, Mike, age seven, and LaDolle, age 5, and Mary EVANS,
20 years of age, who reside on the second floor of the home, were trapped by the fire which gutted the interior. After
attracting the attention of neighbors, who called the city fire department to the scene, three firemen carried the
two women and two children to safety by the use of ladders, one at a front window and one at a rear window. The fire,
which started about midnight in the downstairs kitchen, was caused by too heavy fuses which permitted electric wires to
overheat, according to a report from the fire chief. The SWIGARTS are former residents of Ringgold county.
