RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 15, 1956

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

George MOSBARGER of Mount Ayr has accepted a position with DICO, Inc. of Des Moines, manufacturer and distributor of dairy supplies and equipment and chemicals.

Announcement of the reappointment of Mrs. ANDREW of Mount Ayr as 1956 fund-raising chairman for the cancer control program in Ringgold county has been made by Charles J. MURPHY, of Dubuque, state campaign chairman of the American Cancer Society. Mrs. ANDREW is also chapter chairman in Ringgold county. Last year Ringgold county exceeded its assigned quota by raising $1,970 under Mrs. ANDREW'S leadership.

Lyle FARIS, a member of the Liberty Boys 4-H club, showed the reserve champion market pig in the Creston 4-H Swine Show held last Saturday. Also a top honor winner was Bill DAUGHTON with the first place pen of three.

Mr. and Mrs. E. M. HUGHES of Beaconsfield will observe their 55th wedding anniversary March 21.

Mrs. L. A. DALBEY was injured Wednesday morning of last week in an automobile accident which happened about 10 miles east of Centerville on Highway 2. Mrs. DALBEY was en route to Columbia, MO for a visit with her daughter, Marcia, a student at Stephens College, when her car skidded on a snow and ice-covered curve, left the highway and landed on its side in a ditch. The accident was witnessed by a hospital supply salesman, who stopped to investigate and who took her to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Centerville. Mrs. DALBEY suffered a long gash above her right eye, severe facial and eye bruises, injuries to her left ankle and body contusions and she was unconscious until the following day.

She remained in the hospital until Saturday afternoon, when she was returned by her daughter, Marcia, to her home in Mount Ayr where she is slowly convalescing. The DALBEY car, 1 1954 Chevrolet, was extensively damaged.

Basketball fans are still wondering just what happened as the 140 point lead held by the Diagonal Maroons melted away to give Shelby a last minute 52-50 win in the district tournament finals Friday night at Red Oak. It was the second straight year that Diagonal suffered a heartbreaking defeat, having lost to Tracy last year in the sub-state meet in much the same manner as they lost to Shelby.

Congratulations are extended to Beth WALTERS of Beaconsfield who was selected on the Iowa Daily Press Association's all-state girls' basketball team. Miss WALTERS was also named as one of the forwards on the Des Moines Register's third all-state team. She has accumulated 3,558 points in a career total and has another year of competition ahead.
