Hundreds of animals were entered in the many categories at the Ringgold County Fair this past week. Mekenzie BISHOP showed the grand champion market beef of the fair. Nancy ELMER repeated with the grand champion market swine class winner. Courtney WEEDA swept the market lamb grand champion honors.

Molly LYNCH of Redding was crowned queen of the Ringgold County Fair and Elisah DOUBLEDAY of Mount Ayr was crowned fair princess on the opening night of the Ringgold County Fair Wednesday night. LYNCH is the daughter of Michael LYNCH of redding and was corwned the 1999 fair queen by 1998 fair queen Lindsey COMER. Princess Elisha DOUBLEDAY is the daughter of Mike and Christine DOUBLEDAY of Mount Ayr. First runner-up was Julie ROUDYBUSH, daughter of Gary and Kris ROUDYBUSH of Mount Ayr. Second runner-up was Amy SCHLAPIA, daughter of Robert and Cindy SCHLAPIA of Diagonal.

A total of 32 projects entered by 19 Ringgold county 4-Hers will advance to the Iowa State Fair in areas judged in the 4-H exhibit building this year. An additional 32 projects from 18 4-H members were presented lavendar ribbons for being considered for state fair but not making the final section.

Two Ringgold county youth have been selected to participate in the 1999 National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine to be held July 18-28 in Houston, TX. Cara SMITH of Mount Ayr and Debbie STEPHENS of Mount Ayr, both 1999 graduates of Mount Ayr Community high school, will be among a select group of outstanding high school students from across the country participating inthe forum. The girls were selected for their outstanding academic achievement and interest in the profession of medicine.

The United States Postal Service has appointed David RICHARDS of Mount Ayr as the officer in charge of the Lamoni post office. RICHARDS will serve a period of three months and then return to his previous position as clerk-carrier at the Mount Ayr office.
